Hublot has been coming out with some amazing diving watches lately. The Oceanographic 4000 is one of the best, and it comes in several styles. These eight new limited edition timepieces pay homage to one of the world’s more popular diving destinations, the Caribbean Sea or, more specifically, some of the islands in it.

Though the King Power series runs a little more on the luxurious side than many other major diving watches, this watch is certainly no slouch. If it were, it could never survive at its impressive maximum depth of 4000 meters. There are several features of this watch that are essential when you take it to such depths. Some things, like the unidirectional bezel (controlled by a screw-down crown located at the two o’clock position) and the screw-down case back, are necessary and present on every diving watch. Other features, like the helium valve that lets out the gases that build up inside the watch at high pressures. The case is made of titanium, which makes the very strong and very light.  The glass is also a very sturdy a material, a synthetic sapphire crystal. The crown is located at four o’clock and is distinguishable from the crown that controls the bezel’s movements by the position and by the large guard that covers the latter.

As is common for diving watches, there is a lot of SuperLuminova used in the dial. That’s usually white or maybe bright yellow or orange, but on this watch, it’s a beautiful turquoise color, like the color of the Caribbean Sea. The chapter rings, numerals, and hands of the watch can be seen from about a quarter of a meter away. The hands are wide and have plenty of lume to make sure they aren’t confused with the other markings on the watch.

Inside of the watch is a Hublot in-house movement, the HUB1401. It only has a 42-hour power reserve, but it’s a great movement nonetheless. It does help to have a good, strong case and a strong seal, but it still takes a tough movement to maintain function at 4000m below the water’s surface.

On the back of each of these Caribbean watches, there is an outline of one of the 8 islands that were selected for this series, in a bright turquoise colors like that used on the dial. The eight islands are Puerto Rico, Barbados, Aruba, the Caimans, Cozume, St. Thomas, Nassau, St. Maarten, and Curacao. Each is limited to a small number of pieces, totaling up to 100 pieces in all.
