The coronavirus pandemic continues to be felt across the globe. Many have lost their jobs and still have to face the day-to-day “corona routine.” In this light, contemporary artists are no exception. What is it like to draw inspiration when being isolated? What on earth can keep their spirits up? Surprisingly or not, it is their pets that became their backbone when things got rough. Nadine Witkin, art collector and founding director of Alpha 137 Gallery, decided to pay homage to little heroes and arranged “Pets of the Pandemic,” a benefit exhibition dedicated to raising money for the animal welfare organization to help pets in America.

“Pets of the Pandemic” is a creative way to thank four-legged friends for their love and loyalty. The online exhibit aims to gather funds to support Best Friends Animal Society, a national organization devoted to ending the killing of shelter pets in America and solving other important issues. Alpha 137 Gallery features a fascinating selection of about 40 portraits of dogs, cats, and other animals by a variety of talented artists from across New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut. These include Jennifer Kimberly Carberry-Landis, Alexis Anne Grant, Kristin Doney, Margaret Tsirantonakis, Jeff Elliott, and Thelma Appel, among others. It should also be noted that all artworks are quite affordable, so that everyone can pitch in and do their part.

The idea of such a unique benefit exhibition came to Nadine Witkin as a solution to support both artists getting through the coronavirus crisis and pets that help people in these difficult times. The online venue for the exhibit was provided by Alpha 137 Gallery, a prominent online gallery known for selling limited-edition art in diverse media.
