Art is one of the most sophisticated and valuable ways of exploring the entrails of human nature. Through the visual richness of artworks, artists can unmask the most secret feelings harbored by many. The artistic concept of intimacy and sensitivity has become the focal point of Lauren Mederos’ novel series of contemporary conceptual art. In her work, the Cuban artist has managed to break new ground in understanding the world of primordial instincts.
Lauren Mederos and her artistic concept of intimacy
Lauren Mederos is a Havana-based contemporary visual artist working in the fields of conceptual art, design, and photography. She studied at the Higher Institute of Art and the Professional Art School “Roberto Diago Querol” from where she graduated in 2019.
Lauren Mederos’ artworks have been repeatedly displayed at a number of collective and solo exhibitions. Thanks to the formidable talent and her contribution to the contemporary art scene, the artist earned several local awards, including the Grand Prize at Art In Process Event for one of her latest works titled “Erotic Narrations of the Body.”
Erotic Narrations of the Body
“Erotic Narrations of the Body” is a series of art collages featuring evocative photos, which presents the artistic concept of intimacy most brightly and vividly. Visual erotica of surreal shapes grips the attention and provokes subtle and yet mixed feelings in the viewers’ hearts.
As a continuation of the narration, “Liquid Hymen” comes across as the representation of eternal virginity, with water masterfully transformed into the glass sphere, which then becomes a metaphor for a flexible hymen.
Glass containers filled with the pig’s blood make everyone think twice before deciding whether the installation appeals or terrifies. Such is the contradiction of senses artfully designed by the young visual master.
Lauren Mederos is a gifted emerging artist, whose artistic concept of intimacy is something unseen and extraordinary. We wish the artist an abundance of luck and prosperity on her artistic pathway.
