The Appeal of a Diamond Watch
The word diamond derives from the Greek word adámas, which means unbreakable or unalterable. Diamonds immediately increase the value of any jewel, and this is because this gemstone is in a class of its own, it is extremely strong and offers a high dispersion of light. Watch manufacturers have not remained oblivious to the power of a diamond, and have successfully added them to their luxury watches.
Diamond watches are, of course, very expensive, and are created for a wealthy market that adores luxury and can afford it; they are the perfect example of a jewel watch. Fine diamonds must have the well known four Cs: carat, cut, color and clarity, and they bring distinction and excellence to the pieces they adorn, including fine watches.
A carat is a weight unit that measures the mass of the diamond. One carat is equivalent to 200 milligrams. The larger the diamonds the higher the price per carat, as larger diamonds are uncommon and highly desired.
The clarity is a measure of the internal defects of the diamond. There is a system that has been created to determine the clarity of a diamond, and only 20% of the diamonds have enough clarity to be considered a gemstone. Of course, the clearer the diamond is, the higher its price.
A diamond should ideally be colorless, which means it is considered as a grade “D” diamond. Grade “E” or grade “F” diamonds have such a light color that it is not even possible to see it when placed on a jewel or a watch. Finally, the cut of a diamond describes the way it has been shaped, such as pear, oval, or square.
Famous brands such as Cartier are well known for their diamond watches. Cartier has created outstanding diamond watches, like the ones in the Le Cirque Animalia collection, featuring watches adorned with diamonds, emeralds, mother of pearl and authentic gemstones.
If you are buying a diamond watch, remember to ask for the corresponding papers that certify that the gemstones are genuine. After you have these documents, we advise you to take the piece to a reputable appraiser for him to register the diamond’s fingerprint. This will let you confirm that the diamond is not changed.
