There are two new limited edition watches by Girard-Perregaux, and they are new versions of the well known original Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges watch that was released 152 years ago. The new versions feature a pink gold round case as a symbol of the balance between technique and art.

The original version was produced in 1860, and had a mechanical movement covered by three bridges shaped as arrow heads. This was the first time that the movement of a watch was also used to embellish its appearance. The watch became an emblematic piece for Girard Perregaux, and it won a gold medal at the Paris Universal Exhibition in 1889. This original watch is a considered as a symbol of watchmaking at the time.

The new pink gold version is a limited edition of 50 pieces with a case that is 41 mm in diameter, 11 mm in height, and with a face that includes the same three perfect arrow-shaped bridges on the dial. The bridges are polished by hand and checked for perfection with a 10x magnifier glass. They feature rounded-off angles that are beveled to achieve a slightly domed look. The watch is water resistant to 30m.

The Tourbillon in the watch consists of 72 parts that are assembled to fit a space that is 12 mm in diameter. The cages and the bridges are polished by hand, and the balance is regulated by gold screws. The platinum dial creates a remarkable background for the three bridges, and everything is covered by a domed AR sapphire crystal. The dial is really interesting as there is even a small seconds hand in blued steel on the cage of the Tourbillon. The movement of the watch is a GP 9600 self-winding in-house automatic mechanical movement which runs at a frequency of 21,600 vph and has a power reserve of 48 hours.

The watch is a stunning piece, but I must say that I was blown away by the limited version of 18 pieces that features 88 baguette cut diamonds that perfectly outline the round bezel, the case-center and also the lugs. Both watches have an alligator skin strap with a folding clasp in 5N18 gold.
