Stylish Jackets Inspired by Collage Art by Morgan Jesse Lappin
Admiration of art comes in many forms today. You can visit a museum or exhibition to view the works of your favorite artists in person. You can review some works online or watch videos with them. Or… you can wear art. The tradition of using eternal artworks as prints on clothing is not new – we have all come across the famous imagery of Andy Warhol, Vincent Van Gogh, or Claude Monet on various items, from shoes to dresses. Now, it’s time for the collage art of Morgan Jesse Lappin to come down into history as imprinted on the stylish modern jackets.
Those who follow Morgan Jesse Lappin for long know that this visual artist and talented musician possesses many additional gifts, such as stylish image-making and an active role in the entertainment industry. Since 2008, Lappin has been deeply involved with paper-based collage art in which he reflects the multi-dimensional, sometimes unconceivable, mixtures of reality and fantasy. The best about his works that many connoisseurs of collage art appreciate is the fleur of nostalgia for the 1980s, the times of the artistic genre’s blossom, which Lappin adds by using the materials and techniques of that period, thus transforming the mundane objects into unbelievable aesthetics.
Another contribution of Morgan Jesse Lappin to the development of contemporary collage art is the establishment of Brooklyn Collage Collective in 2013. The organization unites the cream of the crop among New York collage artists and has already gotten a truly global outreach.
In 2017, Lappin made the first try with the outwear brand The Very Warm in the creation of a collage jacket collection featuring his authentic works. It was highly successful, sold out within days at Nordstrom. So, many fans of his perplexing, complex, and much-loved images sighed in frustration, unable to get those stylish clothing items. Two years passed, and here is a new collection of fantastic jackets with Lappin’s visual art on them – a great chance to make an eloquent fashion statement in 2019!
The good news for all New York fashionmongers is that a great collage jacket pop up and group collage exhibit (and sale) is taking place on October 27. Brooklyn Collage Collective Gallery hosts the event, so all fans of collage art and the creative works by Morgan Jesse Lappin are welcome at 37 Troutman Street, Brooklyn, to see the fusion of visual art and fashion, maybe selecting a new favorite for their fall 2019 capsule.
