Can you think of a watch without hands and numbers for depicting hours, minutes and seconds? It is not an easy task to even conceive such an idea. All of us have seen watches all throughout our lives. Again, most of those watches had numbers as well as hands to denote the time. As such, most of us will naturally find it impossible to even think about a watch without hands or numbers on them. Of course, digital watches do not need hands. Still, they need numbers in LCD format.

There is a watch maker in town who created a handless and numberless watch. Mr. Jones Sun and Moon Watch is the very first watch without hands or numbers to depict time. This is one of a kind feat achieved for the very first time in human history.

How can such a watch depict time? The top part of the watch has an image of the sky and it keeps on moving. At day time, you will see the sun and the natural scenes typically seen at the time. At night, moon takes over the sky and is seen moving from one end to the other with the movement of time. Based on the position of the moon and sun on the semicircle marked on the watch dial’s top portion, you can learn the accurate time of the moment. From evening 6 PM to morning 6 AM, the sky will have moon and her friends displayed on it. From 6 AM to 6 PM, the sky will be under the rule of the Sun and his buddies.

Mr. Jones Sun and Moon Watch depict time with the help of the crescent shaped sky on the dial’s top half. At any given time, it displays 12 hours of the day. During day time, it denotes the 12 day hours. At night time, it displays the 12 night hours. The time is seen moving from the left most end of the arc to the right. When the moon is at the left most end of the arc, it will be 6 PM and it will continue to move ahead to 7 PM, 8 PM etc. until it reaches 6 AM at the right most end of the arc. Now, the night sky will give way to day sky, and sun will take over charge of the proceedings. Again, at 6 AM, the sun will be at the left most end of the arc and will continue moving to the right with the passing of time. 12 hours later, at the right most end of the arc, it will give charge back to the moon again. When sun is at the top middle position, it will be midday and when moon is at this position, it will be midnight.

The watch does feature a minute hand in the center just like in a traditional watch with each marking symbolizing 5 minute increments. The watch is based on a British watch that was attempted in the early 1600s during the very younger days of horology.
