The main peculiarity of “Mehr als Worte” is the unification of almost all works from Iryna Fedorenko’s “Children of War” series in one place. The Ukrainian artist started creating this series after her escape from Russian bombings in March 2022. Astonished and shocked portraits of children facing the horrors of violence, with Fedorenko’s signature emphasis on the expressivity of human eyes, create a long-lasting impression on the viewers and invite everyone to uneasy, discomforting reflections on the incredulity of war.

Most of the paintings featured at Iryna Fedorenko’s new exhibition at SchauRaum im Ackermannbogen have traveled extensively over the past few years, participating in European exhibitions and art shows on the other side of the Atlantic. This is for the first time, almost all of them are under one roof, making “Mehr als Worte” a truly unique event, especially considering the fact that after the show, many of them will start off on further travel to museums and galleries.

According to the artist, “Mehr als Worte” follows its title by sharing universally appealing visual stories and narratives that tell more than words can. Radiant colors, delicate textures, and expressive lines fuse in Fedorenko’s paintings to tell a deeply personal story of pain and loss, coupled with an enduring shade of hope and courage. The show allows everyone to embrace the artist’s creative portfolio in its full depth and diversity, opening her talent from many sides and perspectives for both those who know her art well and those familiarizing themselves with it for the first time.
