Samuel Gurskiy, a Ukrainian Artist Defying Traditional Methods

Samuel Gurskiy is a talented Ukrainian artist whose name stands out as a testimony to experimentation and pure energy in contemporary art. Gurskiy left Ukraine due to the ongoing war and settled in Munich, Germany, where he currently lives and works. Here is an introduction to the artist’s unique art approach and creative activities.

About Samuel Gurskiy

Samuel Gurskiy (birth name: Yaroslav Petrovets) was born in 1984 in Kovel, Ukraine. He never made a deliberate career choice for painting because it has become an integral part of his existence since childhood. Being brought up in a family of artists, Samuel quickly developed a refined creative taste and perception of visual language. Gurskiy treats art as an inner drive and necessity, experimenting with self-expression methods continuously.

Visual Language and Method

Samuel took his first steps in art early in childhood without sticking to a single, narrowly defined artistic method. He painted on the occasional objects, such as furniture, doors, and windows, using a variety of tools. Activities that some could have taken for rebellion, in fact, represented a quest for methods and a refusal to copy the existing art legacy.

Gurskiy never received formal art education, honing his skills through repeated practice and observation. His work is always driven by internal inspiration, so the artist never works on commission, which he regards as a limitation of artistic freedom. His major specialization is large-scale conceptual art, welcoming the viewer into an immersive experience.

International Art Scene

Samuel Gurskiy is mainly known for his two major art series: Language of Numbers and Beyond the Rules. The first one is dedicated to the artist’s creative exploration of the role of numbers in everyday human reality. The second series is a return to the zero point in creativity and a kind of reset that Gurskiy takes on his creative path, reopening his talent through a reinterpretation of his own habits.

His works have also been featured at many group exhibitions in France, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, and Ukraine, and included in several museum programs. Last December, the artist was nominated for the Travel to Art project in Miami during Art Basel Miami Beach. At present, he actively expands partnerships with international galleries, museums, and art fairs.
