Tigran Tsitoghdzyan’s New Exhibition at Fremin Gallery

Tigran Tsitoghdzyan

Tigran Tsitoghdzyan is a prominent figure in contemporary art, working in the hyperrealistic style. This New York-based artist fascinates his audience with bold, innovative artworks and a unique perception of human nature. Fans of Tsitoghdzyan’s creative work appreciate his photorealistic paintings, which are true masterpieces of art. This June, every New Yorker wishing to make a personal acquaintance with his artwork can do this by attending the new exhibition “Mirrors Reimagined” at Fremin Gallery.

Tsitoghdzyan discovered his vocation early and made the first drawing attempts at the age of 5. Henrik Iguitan, the founder of the Modern Art Museum and Children’s Art Museum in Yerevan, noted his talent five years later and started displaying his works at the museums. Soon afterward, Tsitoghdzyan’s works became known to art connoisseurs across the globe. At present, the artist is especially popular in Europe and the USA.

Tsitoghdzyan’s art may relate to any modern viewer because it is about human-technology interaction. The artist became famous due to his modernized portrait of Madonna and Child in which he equipped a modern Madonna with a mobile phone. A series of Madonna-style paintings were warmly received by the international art community because of the icon images’ reconsideration in the contemporary context of human distancing from each other, isolation, and symbolic absence in human interactions because of dependence on social networks and technology.

Paintings included in the “Mirrors” collection were created in 2012. A new exhibition titled “Mirrors Reimagined” is also deeply philosophical regarding human exposure on the Web, and especially on social media. Most of the works in this collection depict female open faces symbolizing self-analysis, which are at the same time covered with semi-transparent hands suggesting an effort to combine self-exposure with self-protection and privacy.

The photorealistic paintings by Tsitoghdzyan are a bright manifestation of the contemporary artists’ interest in the unique repercussions of the Age of Information and social networks on human life. Similar to the blend of publicity and privacy creating double human existence online and in real life, Tsitoghdzyan’s works also possess double artistic meaning by combining ultra-modern photorealistic art and traditional oil painting techniques.

Those new to Tigran Tsitoghdzyan’s art and long-standing fans thereof have a wonderful opportunity to touch the aesthetics and elegance of his exhibition at Fremin Gallery. The gallery is located at 520 W 23rd Street, New York, and is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day except Sunday. “Mirrors Reimagined” runs through June 29, 2019.
