Vostok Europe Anchar Diver Watch

Vostok Europe Anchar Diver Watch

The hands are very interesting. The minute hand is long and straight, a little widened in the middle. It has a tiny tube of tritium gas on it to provide a bit of luminescence. The gas isn’t very bright. The hour hand has a really cool skeleton arrow-shape, also with tubes of tritium gas. It makes the dial just a tad more exciting. It’s unexpected yet very stylish. The second hand is gold-colored and has an arrow at the end in the middle. It, too, is luminous, but it does not have tritium gas tubes on it. The tip that points at the minutes is a little widened, like a cattail.  The flange ring has the tiny tritium gas tubes as well, which makes it easier to read the dial. With the arrow shape of the hour hand, it’s very easy to tell the hands apart when there is little or no light.

One oddly favorable thing about this watch is the sound of its ticks. It has a Japanese movement, the Seiko Caliber NH25A, which is pretty basic, recording only the date and the time. Combined with the acoustics of the case, it makes the sound especially pleasant, even if you already like the sound of most watches. There is a problem with the accuracy of the movement, though. It goes out by as much as 30 seconds a day (usually less), which means you have to reset it pretty often, as much as once a week. This watch cannot be wound manually, which can be a real pain sometimes. Really, it’s one of the best in automatic movements for its price. Seiko generally makes sturdy, long-lasting instruments, and the movement inside of the Anchar is no different. Though it needs somewhat frequent resetting, the watch is very sturdy and reliable.

The strap is made of silicon, which is more comfortable than it sounds. For those who won’t be diving with this watch, there are also versions available that have a leather strap instead. The watch also comes with with some tools and items for repairing and protecting it. These include a couple of straps in case you ever want to change the look a bit, a tool to change them with, and a water-proof case, which seems like overkill for this watch since it is already very water resistant.

All in all, this is a pretty great watch, especially considering the price. It’s actually useful for divers, it’s attractive, and it can take a licking and keep on ticking. Only 1,000 of these wonderful timepieces will be made, so it’s technically a limited edition.  Get yours today!
