Art Basel Breaks into Retail: Meet the New Art Basel Shop

Art Basel is an art fair with global fame, with thousands of people flocking to it every year to admire cutting-edge art, exchange experiences, embrace industry innovations, and acquire new items for their collections. However, even those who don’t plan costly art purchases and only visit the fair for esthetic or networking purposes want to have some lasting memories about the event after it’s over. To meet these passionate visitors’ needs, the fair is opening a retail Art Basel shop this year – a place where every art enthusiast can buy branded collectibles, clothing, interior design items, and accessories.

History Behind the Retail Shop

The shop was set up in close collaboration with Sarah Andelman, a creative behind the well-known Paris concept store titled Colette. Andelman is an experienced visionary with a new approach to retail operations and an impressive track record of partnerships with Diptyque and Le Bon Marche. That’s why the shop’s visitors will be treated to a unique retail experience that is fully consistent with the spirit and vision of Art Basel.

The store was launched with the support of the fair’s chief growth officer – Hayler Romer – another talented marketing specialist in the Art Basel team. According to Romer, the main idea behind this shop is to give Art Basel’s visitors a chance to conserve their experience of visiting the art fair with tangible souvenirs brought from the venue. Romer has a solid background in luxury advertising and is strongly determined to make the Art Basel Shop one of the full-fledged elements of the art fair’s concept.

What Can You Buy at the Art Basel Shop?

The centerpiece of this branded shop’s offer is the collection of memorable souvenirs and apparel under the AB by Art Basel brand. You can find many unique items, ranging from those produced in Christine Sun Kim’s partnership with Art Basel to miniature versions of iconic artworks and styled skateboard decks by Cindy Sherman. The shop is also expected to become an additional meeting place for visitors and artists, where the audiences can get to know art closer and probably familiarize themselves with artists’ creative routines.

Take a Piece of Art Basel Home with You

The shop is meant to expand Art Basel’s outreach to the target audience and help it tap into the associated industries, like art and luxury retail. Thus, if you’re a passionate visitor of Art Basel wishing to take elegantly branded memorabilia of this audacious event home with you, welcome to explore art by the AB brand. The shop opens on June 11, the next day after Art Basel opens its doors in Basel for VIP Preview.
