In recent years, many Ukrainian artists have settled abroad, in large art hubs of Europe and the USA, but they don’t forget their roots, paying tribute to their motherland as the main source of education and creative inspiration. Miroslav Duzinkevych is one of them; the artist currently lives and works in New York but maintains close ties with the Ukrainian art community and institutions. In this article, let’s take a look at Miroslav Duzinkevych’s artistic career more closely.

Life in Ukraine: Early Creative Steps and Education

Duzinkevych was born and spent his early years in a small village in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, where his passion for art started developing. He received formal education at the State High School of T. G. Shevchenko in Kyiv and then studied at the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture at the Department of Painting. After graduation, Duzinkevych spent several years as a teacher intern and then a lecturer at the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts. He also explored the careers of scenic artist and theater artist before moving to the USA.

Miroslav Duzinkevych’s entry into the American art scene started with his participation in the International Art Festival of Independent Artists held by One Art Space in New York in November 2019. In just a month, he also had his work featured at the exhibition at the Tenri Cultural Institute Center in New York. These initial acquaintances with New York initiated a long love story and eventually led to the artist’s move to The Big Apple for permanent residency and work. Miroslav Duzinkevych in the USA

Miroslav Duzinkevych moved to the USA in 2020, a period of uncertainty and slowdown in the art industry related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The newcomer artist’s prospects in a city blocked by a lockdown seemed grim, but Duzinkevych found a firm ground rather quickly. His solo shows at the Museum of International Art (MORA) in Jersey City, Kate Oh Gallery in New York, and other venues were positively assessed by the New York art community. In 2023, the artist also joined the professional union of production designers in the USA and already contributed to such well-known projects as the Netflix miniseries “Sirens” and James Mangold’s Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown.” Currently, Duzinkevych successfully combines painting and production design projects, filling them with emotional depth and thought-provoking narratives, not forgetting to support Ukraine by participating in various art fundraisers and auctions.
