Chanel Première Tourbillon Volant Won Ladies’ Watch Prize at the Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix 2012

Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix 2012 has announced the winners of last year’s prizes. The experts who came with the winner at the event chose Chanel Première Tourbillon Volant as the best ladies’ watch of the year. The coveted prize won at this year’s event would be a cherished occasion for Chanel and the watch makers who work with them.

Chanel has completed a quarter century of selling their stylish watches. It would add to their joy to have won this on this anniversary year itself. They introduced a Tourbillon in the year 2005. This year, they have upped the ante a bit with the introduction of a flying Tourbillon.

A quarter of a century back, Chanel entered the watch making arena with the intention to provide women folks with beautiful mechanical watches of their own. Prior to this, quality luxury mechanical watches were primarily reserved for men. Chanel helped to turn the tide in women’s favor, at least to some extent. ‘Premiere’ was the very first watch from Chanel that was introduced in to the market 25 years back. At that time, the inspiration for that watch was the octagonal shape of the bottle stopper of one of their famous perfumes.

The firm came up with the Chanel Première Tourbillon Volant model in collaboration with Renaud & Papi, well-known Swiss watch manufacturers. They are working together towards a common goal for the very first time.

Camellia, the favorite flower of Chanel is the inspiration for the watch. It will take the flying Tourbillon a minute of time to complete a full rotation, where the flower petals will denote the seconds.

This women’s luxury watch has a power reserve that can last up to 40 hours. The importance given by Swiss watch making industry in attaining perfection can be noticed in each aspect of the watch.

Chanel Volant watch has its hour and minute hands placed in an off centered manner. They are set towards the top half of the dial. The dial has a black ceramic surface. Diamonds are used to cover the case, bezel and crown. Antireflective material coated sapphire crystal is used to enhance the dial. The strap choice is either black alligator or satin. It can resist water pressure up to 30 meters of depth. The watch has a manual winding mechanical movement system.

Even when the latest model has newer dimensions of diameter and thickness, they have ensured the proportion of the parts to be very well within aesthetic limits. The Chanel Première Tourbillon Volant is 28.5 mm X 37 mm, in comparison to the 19 mm X 26 mm of the model Première.

Chanel is coming out with only 20 of the limited edition watches that are created with 18 karat white gold and covered with a large number of diamonds totaling a whopping 7.2 carats. The watch takes roughly 125 hours of labor on the part of the watch maker to complete.

As the watch provides everything that a woman would expect from a watch, there is no wonder in it getting the prize for the best women’s watch in Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix 2012.
