Eye-Catching Abstract Paintings by Sophia Chizuco
Abstract paintings find their devoted admirers among many collectors of fine art, representing the most peculiar part of their collections. Abstract art originated in the early 20th century. The artists working in this artistic style do not use images of real objects and events – their art pieces reflect a combination of geometric shapes, color spots, and lines. Surprisingly, abstractionism has become a way for viewers to achieve harmony through associations and bizarre games of forms and shades. It is no wonder that the number of artists creating abstract paintings continues to grow annually.
One of the most remarkable names in the world of contemporary abstract and installation art is the Brooklyn-based artist Sophia Chizuco. Chizuco was born in Japan, and there she first fell in love with the world of art. She graduated from Tokyo Gakugei University where the young artist was mastering the intricacies of the craft. After obtaining her B.A. in Art and Education, Chizuco moved to the USA to continue her studies, this time at one of the oldest art schools of NYC – The Art Students League of New York. There she chose abstract art as her major specialization. Among her fist artworks were abstract paintings depicting flora and fauna with the use of various geometric forms.
In 2009, after sharpening her knowledge and technique, Sophia Chizuco decided to broaden her scope as she took an interest in the creation of abstract art installations and fantastical sculptures. Ever since, Chizuco has been turning her masterpieces into the main character of her ethereal performances.
Abstract paintings by Sophia Chizuco are full of pure vital energy, reflecting her personal beliefs. By the artist’s own words, she thinks that our life experience can liberate our minds through the constructive process. To portray vivid pictures from her memory, Chizuco uses such creative means and tools as watercolors, glass pen, oil (on canvas), colorful pencils (on paper), charcoal, etc.
Sophia Chizuco is a proud holder of a variety of awards, including ArtNetwork Grand Prix and the Special Recognition Award from the Nebraskan Period Gallery. A number of New York art museums and galleries have hosted her exhibitions, including the Staten Island Museum, the Lincoln Center, and the Chelsea Museum, among others. Besides, Sophia Chizuco’s abstract art has been exhibited at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum in her homeland of Japan, and it is also in countless private collections worldwide.
