IWC Big Pilot DFB Edition Watch
The IWC Big Pilot DFB Edition Watch is here for the UEFA European Football Championship 2012. The watch is for the German Football Association (DFB) and the timepiece is the third special edition watch for the German football team. The proceeds from the sales of this watch will go to the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation projects in Germany, just as in the two previous collaborations.
With only 250 pieces in the making, this limited edition watch is rather large, featuring a 46mm brushed stainless steel case with the DFB logo with the eagle and the words “OFFIZIELLE UHR DER DEUTSCHEN FUSSBALL-NATIONALMANNSCHAFT” (“official watch of the German national team”) engraved on the back.
Its rhodium plated sun-ray finished dial is covered on both sides by a convex sapphire glass with antireflective coating and is water resistant to 200 feet or 6 bar. The mechanical movement includes 42 jewels, an IWC manufactured 51011 caliber and an outstanding power reserve of 168h.
As a stunning and elegant example of the quality that characterizes IWC, a Swiss watch manufacturer that has been producing watches of lasting value since 1868, the watch displays the German National Football Team’s home colors on the dial and in the strap, producing a timepiece with a harmonious and easy to read dial. The indices and Arabic numerals are in black, while the power reserve indicator needle on the sub-dial at the 3 o’clock position and the small seconds hand on the sub-dial at the 9 o’clock position have red highlights. The “1” on the power reserve sub-dial is yellow as a reminder that the power is running low. There is a date window at the six o’clock position. The strap is in black and red stamped leather and is connected to a stainless steel folding clasp.
“German football has forged ahead in recent years,” says Georges Kern, CEO of IWC Schaffhausen. “The team isn’t just fresh, dynamic and clever in their tactics. They love the beautiful game. It’s a source of absolute pride to me that the German Football Association (DFB) and IWC Schaffhausen have renewed their partnership.”
