The Wrong Biennale 2024: New Works of Glitch Art by Platform 101

Platform 101, a project that pioneered glitch art in Iran, represents the Iranian Pavilion at The Wrong Biennale 2024. Founded in 2018, this trailblazing institution has had a massive impact on the art scene of its home country. Today, Platform 101 is actively paving the way not just for digital artists but for Middle Eastern artists in general. “Glitch In The Sacred Geometry,” the exhibition featured at The Wrong Biennale 2024, is curated by the acclaimed artist and founder of the project Mohammad Ali Famori. It can be viewed online through March 31, 2024.

Platform 101 is not only an art institution but also a research laboratory. In 2019, Mohammad Ali Famori, the project’s founder, created the Manifesto of Iranian Glitch Art, marking the beginning of a new era of digital art. Platform 101 stands out among other digital art projects because it focuses on black-and-white artwork to “shape a mood or an atmosphere” by using “harmony, saturation, and color tones.” In 2020, after a long period of dedicated research, Platform 101 opened its first exhibition. Since then, the institution has come a long way, from holding digital shows to participating in large-scale art events.

Until March 31, works by Platform 101 artists are on view at The Wrong Biennale, the biggest online art show in the world. The New York Times called it “the digital world’s answer to Venice” for a reason: this year, it has managed to exhibit works by 2,701 artists, and its viewership regularly reaches millions.

“Glitch In The Sacred Geometry” features 11 video artists from Iran. These include Mohammad Ali Famori, Elnaz Mohammadi, Arash Masoom, Arezou Ramezani, Mohammad Abdollahzade, Yasamin Asgharizadeh, Niloufar Baniasadi, Parisa Pakzamir, Reza Famori, Sadegh Majlesi, and Melissa Valipour.

At its core, “Glitch In The Sacred Geometry” is about destruction, creation, and everything in between. Getting to the very root of cultural, historical, and geographical processes, each artist uses geometric shapes, movement, and symbolic associations to tell stories that are personal and universal at the same time.

Video art pieces by Platform 101 artists can hypnotize you but do not get distracted by the beauty of intricate ornaments. “Glitch In The Sacred Geometry” questions reality as we know it, offering a truly unique perspective of contemporary digital art.
