TMORA: An American Museum of Russian Art
Often, when someone feels eager to explore the culture and art of another foreign country more deeply, they need to visit that country in person. The reason for that is pretty simple: unfortunately, little attention is paid to the cultural and historical peculiarities of other nations. However, there are, of course, exceptions to this rule, and the Museum of Russian Art (TMORA) in Minneapolis is one of them.
Being the only major nonprofit American museum dedicated to Russian art, this institution has become the center of enlightenment and education for many of those living in America and interested in Russian art and its history.
TMORA: An American Museum of Russian Art
The Museum of Russian Art was grounded by Raymond and Susan Johnson, two household names in the art market. Having a substantial background in collecting Russian Realist paintings, they decided to establish a place where people would be able to embrace the magnificent and rich cultural and artistic singularity of Russia.
TMORA initially emerged in 1991, but in 2005, it was renovated. Since then, the Museum has been showing at least 8-10 art exhibitions per year. One can find a fair number of versatile artifacts, artworks, and antiques from different époques of Russian art history, from Muscovite Russia to post-soviet Russia. Its permanent collection consists of nearly 5,000 works, which is an impressive number for the museum of Russian art in the US.
Except for showcases, TMORA offers visitors to take part in special lectures, panel discussions, seminars, and other events. All this creates a wholesome experience and establishes a close bond between the audience and the subject. Moreover, the Museum has a local built-in Russian Store that allows visitors to purchase some valuable pieces of Russian art and bring them home.
To sum up, TMORA is a one-of-a-kind experience and a tremendous opportunity for people passionate about Russian art and culture. You won’t find a better place for your research and investigation in the US!
