Culturally Arts Collective always has something exciting on offer, with immersive exhibitions and celebrations of diversity and subversive themes in art happening all year round on its digital platforms. This summer is marked by another worthy virtual art show opened at the Milostka Center for Exhibitions. Welcome the multi-disciplinary artist Hazel Chen and her deeply honest self-exploration in the “Boundaries of Being” exhibition.

About Hazel Chen

Hazel Chen was born in Shenzhen, a traditional and conservative Chinese city with a strong emphasis on collectivism, which left a trace on her identity and art. Today, Chen is a New York-based artist who is deeply invested in the topics of the limits of consciousness, the boundaries between an individual and social power structures, and the intricate processes of identity formation and change.

Hazel Chen’s works have been exhibited at many American galleries, winning her a lot of visibility and a positive critical reception. These include SAIC Galleries, A Space Gallery, 280 Gallery, and Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery, among others. The artist is also a holder of several honorable awards for the unique visual language and approach.

Hazel Chen’s “Boundaries of Being” Exhibition

On July 1, Culturally Arts Collective presented “Boundaries of Being,” a virtual solo exhibition by Hazel Chen, featuring five art pieces. As an artist deeply engaged in the themes of identity, the conflict of self with society, and the psychological balance between one’s self and social pressure, Chen continues a sincere discussion of these aspects in this new art project.

The artist herself characterizes the exhibition as a deep dive into the fluid concept of being. To Chen, identity and the state of being are continually shaped and challenged by various internal and external forces, from the individual’s cultural and social forces to the limits of consciousness coming from within. “Boundaries of Being” also aims to explore the divide between humans and nature, inviting the viewers on a psychological tour of struggles, repressed impulses, fluidity, reconstruction, and transcendence.
