Sonic Landscapes: Art Fusion of Fractal-Inspired Geometry and Music
This past November, fans of digital art and fractal-inspired geometry had a chance to embrace the experimental vision of the interplay of visual fractal esthetics and sound at the unique event organized by Platform 101. A series of exhibitions titled Sonic Landscapes: Fractal Editions took place at Dayhim Art Society (DAS) in Tehran, Iran, on November 8, 15, and 22, welcoming visitors to explore new dimensions of creative experimentation.
Fractal-Inspired Geometry in Platform 101’s Interpretation
The core concept in the event’s philosophy and vision was fractal-inspired geometry. As described by the project’s art director and curator Mohammad Ali Famori, the exhibition offered a completely new vision of the fusion of sound and visual esthetics inspired by fractals. The latter form the backbone of Platform 101’s creative focus; they represent repetitive geometric patterns that inspire a contemplation over the unending tension between order and chaos.
In Sonic Landscapes: Fractal Editions, the team of Platform 101 and curators of DAS attempted to present their vision of fractal-inspired art from a new angle – an audiovisual one. The invited artists teamed up to reconsider popular mythological images through the prism of experimental sound and fractal images.
The Greek goddess of victory, Nike, the Mayan god of power, Hozah, the Mithraic lion-headed figure, and the Hindu deity of wisdom and creativity, Ganesha, laid the inspirational basis for the exhibition’s philosophical stance. The presented artworks invited visitors to think over the fleeting nature of power and interrogate the duality of failure and victory. Created images and soundscapes also enacted the reflections on human identity tensions and the continuity of cultural decline and revival. Sonic Landscapes: Fractal Editions became a vibrant meditative space conducive to thought-provoking dialogs on the nuances of human existence.
The Line-up of Sonic Landscapes: Fractal Editions
Sonic Landscapes: Fractal Editions was created by a talented team of musicians and artists, brought together by the joint effort of Platform 101 and Dayhim Art Society. The event featured innovative musicians famous for their unique approach to music, such as Vamegh’s atmospheric sound texture and Alireza Heydari’s energetic techno sounds and industrial beats. Parsa Shomali added experimental soundscapes to the mix, and Noise Space (Farbod Hamedi) spiced electronic music with the encapsulations of glitch and noise elements.
The person responsible for the visual component of the exhibition was Arash Masoom, an established visual artist with 10+ years of experience in the field of fractal art.
This way, Sonic Landscapes: Fractal Editions emerged as a vibrant fusion of visuals and sound to share a compelling audiovisual narrative with the audiences.
